Friday evening a group of us went to aid my son with a sound job he had. We were additionally going in order to appreciate the music. After all not one of the rest of us were sound engineers.
The minute all of us got there it was time to get moving. Helping to get out the cables for patching in the various gear. We furthermore helped with ensuring the equipment was on stage the right way. Subsequently after that we were finished our element of the set up. Now it was time for the expert to work his magic.
What exactly Does a Professional Sound Man Do?
Even though I can not clarify all the things he does, I can certainly say to you that there are 2 sound boards that have to be taken care of in addition to any kind of difficulties that may come up before and during the show.
At a prior show I attended one of the drum heads broke. Up on the stage went the sound man and changed out gear as fast as he was able to. There was barely a rest in the set. The group was really happy with him.
He furthermore makes sure that the two boards are setup properly for the music the audience hears and that the band is happy with what they are listening to coming back at them.
The speakers on the ground facing each of them are made to send back precise sounds. It might be their own instrument, or the entire group or whatever they need to play their component the right way.
There were a couple of small incidents during the night, but they were taken care of quickly.
As for our group, we absolutely loved the show!
The Sound Engineering is Done, Can We all Go Home?
Even though the show may well be over the engineers work is a long way from over. He facilitates the bands with getting their gear off of the stage as speedily as it can be. We helped as much as possible with that.
And remember the cords we helped to set out? We had to gather them up, wound up in the manner that they like their equipment kept, as well as stored in the crate they are transported in. The sound guy also had to make certain that everything else had been cleared from the stage.
If he observed any really great bands throughout the show he may take time and speak to them and offer him a business card. They may be the upcoming performer which Antifoniq would like to produce. It doesn’t happen at every show, but I think it may have happened at this one!
He also had a conversation with the director/producer of a local cable show which was filming that night. Antifoniq has linked up with Carolina Bands Live to do some mobile sound work. Everybody is psyched about that.
Finally the night is over. He talks over any problems with the owner and collects his pay. It is now 2:30 in the morning. We are all worn out, however he then informs all of us that he has a big show coming up over the next couple of days and must head out to yet another show to focus on getting the stage constructed. No actual sleep for him until Monday sometime.
I suppose if you are a sound engineer sleeping is a unheard of commodity!
It was a terrific evening and I came to understand a good deal about exactly how tough the job truly can be. The whole party need to thank Jerritt for including us and letting us to assist that night. After all we in addition got a chance to watch an awesome show as a added bonus.
